Reiki Attunements

Reiki Attunements

The process of learning to use Reiki is called an attunement because it is a bit like tuning a radio. It is not something that can be taught out of books but is something that your energy body is tuned to by a Reiki Master so that you can connect to and use the energy.

Meditation Classes

Meditation Classes

Our meditation sessions aim to take the mystery out of meditation and combine learning specific breathing and meditation practices, guided visualisation and periods of quiet for self-guided meditation.

Becoming attuned to Reiki is a wonderful gift of healing to give to yourself. Karen holds Reiki afternoons to give people attuned to all levels of Reiki the chance to give and receive Reiki together.

Debunking Meditation Myths - Part Two

You may have seen my recent article: Debunking Meditation Myths – Part One. This article was inspired by talking to lots of people who have been put off from trying to meditate. As I began addressing some of the questions and myths around what often appears to be a very magical or mystical practice the article began to outgrow itself so I divided it into two parts. The first part focused more on the physical aspects of meditation, things like how to sit, how often you should practice and where you should be when you meditate.

This, the second part of Debunking Meditation Myths, focuses more on our minds, what happens to our thoughts and more internal things that might get in the way of us even giving it a go.

Listen to Karen on the radio!

I was very excited to be invited to be interviewed on Mind Body Radio in October. It was the first time I've done a live interview but it was great fun. I always enjoy talking about my work, how I got into healing and more importantly, 'why'!

Grab a cuppa and have a listen. I hope you enjoy it.

Debunking Meditation Myths - Part One

Over my years of teaching meditation classes I have often come across ideas that people have about meditation that put them off from trying it. I thought it was time to cast a light onto some of these beliefs that can prevent us from experiencing the many benefits of this practice.

As I was writing I realised that this is a pretty big topic. There seem to be many ideas around about meditation that can be a hindrance so I decided to focus first on some of the more practical issues. So read on to discover more about seven myths about practical aspects of meditation that I am very happy to debunk! Look out for part two coming soon

Why I bother to meditate

I have been teaching meditation for more than ten years. Like many people my own personal meditation practice has varied in its consistency at different times. Recently I started doing a short meditation before I sit down to do admin work at my computer. Sometimes I need to do some work on my accounts, sometimes I’m answering emails or, like today, doing some writing. Depending on what the task is I may enjoy it to a greater or lesser degree and some days are easier than others to get this kind of computer based work done. So I thought beginning with some meditation might help and I want to share with you my reasons why.

Of course meditation doesn’t always work miracles but I find that even if I sit for just a few minutes the three things I always feel , as a result, are calmer, more focused and more refreshed.

You are enough...

I have been doing some research into short meditations recently. I am planning to record some more of my own meditations, (listen to and download my existing meditations here). This is a great way to get ideas and think about what I like, what I’m not so keen on and what I think works well. The extra benefit is that I get to spend a bit more time relaxing and focusing for myself, with someone else leading the way. We all need outside support some of the time.

Positive Affirmations

Some meditations use affirmations as a way to help boost positive thinking and encourage us to feel good about ourselves rather than focusing on the negatives, on things we don’t like or those aspects we aren’t happy with. Affirmations aren’t something I have used a lot myself but I know they work really well for some people. There’s no right or wrong way to meditate. It is much like exercise where different types will suit different bodies and the most important thing is to find something you enjoy and that works well for you and what you’re trying to achieve. Keep it fun too!
